i see her expression in their eyes, one
of fear. i've been where she is, naked,
spread-eagled vulnerability laying on a
slab of ice in a room devoid of warmth.
"the patient is ready, doctor."
the mask comes down, held by gloved
fingers determined to pull her under.
she fights the only way she can, moving
her head side to side. a voice tells her,
"this will all be over soon."
suddenly, she is swimming towards
the light and everything goes black ---
what she remembers when i talk to her
after surgery. i tell her, i do, too ....
many of these events I have experienced -- your naked body on that icy slab with your arms and legs strapped down -- you are in God's hands with each of them -- though the feeling of helplessness is pervasive -- much peace and love to you my dear friend -- Jon Michael
Scary stuff. I don't remember them knocking me out for my surgery. Supposedly, I even had to get off my bed & onto another...lol. A very dramatic poem, Karla. Love and Hugs,
Sheila
I remember going under a few too many times...the swimming darkness as it pulls you under...
But then there are those experiences with the light...that erase all fear.
Very well expressed, from who who knows and has been there. It's the icy cold which permeates and exacerbates the fear and dread.Excellent my friend. J'nia <> <
I've been there Karla, I remember it well as I tried to let them know I was alive. Of course I was thinking that they thought I was dead but they knew I was very much alive.

Karla,
An emotional writing of the few remembered moments before the surgery!
These words could only be written by someone whom has---Been there, Done that!
Yes it is a terrifying experience sometimes but still when I look back on the times I was there, there is also a sense of calm that radiates from that light...
(((((((((Oh, Karla.))))))))) This is soooo good. You have captured the essence of one of the most frightening experiences Life presents perfectly. Love the simplicity and clarity with which you write. You make it look easy, and for most of us, that is a very hard thing to do. This one has a bit of a claustrophobic feeling to it. Ugh! How well I remember that damn mask being put over my face before my surgeries. NOT fun!! 'Course, you remember, too. Very well done; brava, Karla!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin sis, Karen Lynn. :(
Thankful for the modern-day anastetics unlike the old-day knock out ether hanky...visions are aplenty when incoherent and it can be used in creative art such as writing and painting when the patient comes out from under it and recupes...nice thoughts, Karla...
Re-Release! No longer back-listed. Return to the Olde Ways. The hustle and bustle of modern day life has brought many of us to a quick fix attitude. This book is for those of you who are fed up; have looked at your life and your loved ones and realize
