Used to be when a woman died in war, she was sent home in a plain pine box with no official escort. It was as if the government said, "Here's your daughter back. Thanks anyway." Perhaps it has something to do with the misconception that women don't die in war, that she isn't a hero because her job technically didn't have a combat designation. But women do take up arms and they do die in combat. And those that survive suffer every bit as much as their male counterparts. Yes, women "are veterans, as well" and they deserve their rightful place in our pantheon of heros. Thank you, Karla, for never letting us forget this.

Are the rules of war changed? Are men in combat different that the men in combat of gone days? Because if it is...it can't be the Marines of yesterdays when we didn't left behind no man or woman and my beer was yours as well as mine.

Spin your storms, Karla Dorman...and sound the winds! Woman have always dressed in their armament for what is fair and just...and if anyone can defend themselves in increment weather, it is YOU! Fight for your rights, and write, write, write...You will also always have my recognition, appreciation and home grown love, of course! The problems stem from no one person to point fingers at...so many clouds in our eyes and not enough fog lights to bring them in! Oh boys! Ahoy! LOL! (I have no idea where that came from! )

When a citizen enlists in the military he/she agrees to server country to the best of their ability and to obey orders as given. This makes them all equal and should be treated as equal from beginning of their boot camp training to their after discharge benefits...,mind you in that regard none of them are getting treated truly fair.

You served where you were ordered to and deserve the recognition that is rightfully due to all veterans; be they war veterans or veterans who never saw duty overseas makes no difference whatsoever. Nor should male or female make a difference either. You served as ordered to and did so patriotically, willingly and faithfully. PERIOD.

Powerfully penned heartbreak and anger, well justified. Women volunteer to serve their country, as well as the men. Why are they not getting equal treatment? Why are Veterans living on next to nothing or on the streets? Veterans should lack for NOTHING!! Well done, and thank you for your service! You are NOT forgotten by me, nor will you EVER be!

I understand where you are coming from, and how Peter drug the propaganda of Blackwater into this piece I'll never know. Well, yes, I do know, because propaganda is propaganda and the lib's go to untold depths to spew their rhetoric.

Now, to the woman's situation in the service. I don't think they should have a separate "thank you." After all, when you say the Navy, or the Marines, you are including women as well as men, because they serve also.

In response to Anthony, I guess I am ignorant, but I thought women in the armed services had the same rights as do the men. course, I could be wrong.

Thank you for your service Karla. I haven't forgotten you. I know so many veterans who feel the same way. Lots of them alcoholics and drug addicts in recovery now, who served in Vietnam, Gulf War I, etc. Then you have the awful situation with the contractors like Blackwater. They go ahead and rape their female compeers and get away with it. There's a case where a woman was raped in Iraq by a bunch of Blackwater employees. Under existing law over there, they cannot be held accountable for such things. She was from Texas too, I believe. Some Democrat, can't remember his name, tried to introduce legislation in Congress attempting to put an end to this. The Republicans voted it down. Nice. This is when you know the corruption has reached such levels that it's pointless to believe there's a political solution to anything anymore. Sad state of affairs indeed!

Yes you are! Especially now in this day and age. Women are right in on the action. When I was in the Navy women were known as "Waves". THey did mostly clerks duty. I never seen any on my ship the USS Randolph.But I did see many when I was a hospital patient, not only nurses but office workers too. You should have every right I have or other veterans have.
