'Sun fell into my lap. ...'

(Image © 2012, Karla Dorman)

Poem Artwork

Sun fell into my
lap.  Tried to pick it
up and send it back
where it belongs.  Up

there.  But it didn't
want to return.  It
wanted to stay here,
with me, because I

looked so sad.  So I
put the sun on a
fuzzy stalk, where it
is content to bloom:

it smiles sweetly from
yellowed fields and peeks
around corners, a
glimpse of Heaven on

earth.  My happiness:
watching it wave through
the window.  THAT'S how
sunflowers were born.

Years ago I found myself driving along a country road where sunflowers were blooming in fields as far as the eye could see. It was magical, just as with your poem. Wonderful write!

Thanks, I never knew. I have noticed lately that sunflowers pop up is almost every vacant lot. I love sunflower seeds so much and wild sunflowers seem to propagate so easily here in Texas, that I think it must be a paradise for birds that eat those seeds. Sunflowers sure brighten up the green of vacant lots as well.
