Depression you vile and hateful thing,
I used to laugh, I used to sing.
Now you've locked me in this prison,
from which there's no escape it seems.
No light, music, laughter, or love.
Only days spent in anguish,
and nights filled with horrific dreams.
Take this pill's the doctors' goal,
but they only numb my soul.
Leaving me a zombie.
Depression you vile and hateful thing,
you've replaced my wedding ring.
Double whammy here Excellent write and comparative, too.

Does seem like that many times, yet when the dust would settle and I would have my own life back somehow I'd pull free. that and finding the right meds from the pdoc. Took a few wrong ones for sure. but I know that dark place and those even darker nights. Lady J
This is heartbreaking, Walt. Very well written and eye-opening concerning the pain of depression.
A hymn comes to mind, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace." I pray He will lift you out of the depths and renew your soul.
Hope it isn't you now...I'll keep you in prayer anyway;-)

Only one who has tred these paths can truly convey what it feels like to be depressed. You've done it in powerful, heartfelt lines: well done.
