Working late into the night again,
A bottle at hand to numb feelings,
Of too many memories that surface in his sleep.
Nightmares of things past, things to come, or even yesterday,
Within the confines of his mind they do play.
How fast they manifest in his psyche, these horrific dreams.
They leave him to his first waking moment with a feeling of dread,
Making the start to each day a chore,
Wondering if of this can he take much more.
Sometimes even in sleep, certain people don't, working late into their nights mare...the inner spirit, beckoning! Let it!

Thank you for this thoughtful tribute and thanksgiving, Walt. Everytime I see an ambulance or other rescue service going about it's business, I thank God for those men and women who selflessly serve those in dire need of attention without heed to their own well-being or safety. They must see and absorb some horrific tragedy time after time after time, relentlessly, all in the course of a day's work. I know I couldn't do it. Traumatic stress of any type and however induced often has the bottle or worse at the end of it. I pray those around to see the signs will be those best placed to deal with them and to give back the love that such selflessness deserves. Great work here! TY Kate xx
I know what it is to feel the anxiety, worries, stress and other nightmare inducing feelings that can deprive us of not only sleep but just plain resting. I do know too though and learned the hard way that booze like suicide is not the answer. Great capture of the moment Walt.
