Karena Talks To Her Eagle Spirit Guide

By Amber “V” Moonstone
11/11/08

Standing In the middle of the village,
Not knowing which way to turn,
I hear a cry from the Eagle soaring above me,
He is telling me to have faith in the Great Spirit

Easy for you to say, Great Eagle,
but I live in this tumultuous world,
where the white man hates,
and steals, and kills, and rules.

He is over bearing
not caring,
and a killer of nature,
and its creatures.

We must stop this violence,
So much destruction of our Native American Spirit;
this has taken a toll on my people.
We are fighting a losing battle.

The times are getting more and more
difficult to manage, there is not enough food
to go around, and game is thinning out,
due to the white man’s high demand of meat.

Can we survive this next winter?
That is a question only Powhatan can answer
He is the most powerful Chief in this land.
He reigns supreme among all people.

My children look up to him as a Grand Father
they love him and feel safe in his village.
I know my time is about to end here;
I have done all that I was sent here to do.

One more winter and summer, will prove to
be too long.  I must exit before I am
feeling strangled and unappreciated.
Great Eagle, tell the Universe to pray for us.

We have become prisoners in our own world,
fearful of our lives, and our future generation.
When will this all end?  Why is this happening?
Too many questions being left unanswered.

I hear news that the white man is in trouble
they are very near starvation, and unable to survive
Their Mother Land has forsaken them,
and now they seek our help.

How can we help them?
When all they have done is destroy our world.
The Great Spirit is a forgiving force,
Harmony, peace and love reigns supreme.

I have always believed in this way of life,
but now, as I watch our people lose their land
and their crops to the white man,
I become bitter with a hatred that is deep within my soul.

I want to be good, as the Great Spirit wishes,
my heart is growing colder day by day,
and soon, I will be as hateful as the white man.
I must meditate and ask for guidance and forgiveness.

My children need their father,
Tumas is still lost in his forgotten mind,
He is not here for us now,
and I must save the children, all the children for our future survival.

She certainly has a tall task ahead of her. Imagine how difficult it must have been at that time! makes you wonder how they ever survived
I can't help but have the deepest admiration for the indian tribes of that time.I only wish more of them could be with us today to have the same opportunities we have.Superb work,Amber!

You have surely out done yourself here. Capturing the agony and dispair that surely existed, with a very uncertain future ahead...

Be always safe,
Karen

Amber,
A powerful open and honest assessment and an appeal to all of us to mend our greedy silly selfish ways. A fine piece of writing.
