"What Is The Answer?" (Karena Series)

Karena walked back to find Tumas
sitting and chanting to the Great Spirit
She knelt down behind him
waiting for him to be finished.

She knew not to disturb him.
The connection he had with the Great Spirit
was personal and very sacred.
She also holds those same feelings deeply within her soul.

As he finished, Tumas turned toward Karena,
He smiled at her and proclaimed,
"The Great Spirit has promised that our children
will be found and that they are safe."

"Tumas, I have not doubted that for a moment,
I have believed in the power of the Great Spirit,
I have always believed in his mercy, love, and
his strength to guide us toward peace and light.

It is with those beliefs, that has kept me strong
during your absence, and has given me
the power of courage to keep fighting for our
people's rights to live as a free nation."

We are to leave now, the warriors await our
departure from their village.
They will lead us to Powhatan
so that we will be reunited with our family.

Tumas and Karena mounted their horses,
and began their journey homeward.
For hours, they quietly rode,
listening to the soothing sounds of the Earth.

They were approaching the Pamunkey River,
when a group of natives surrounded them.
"What is your purpose for being on our land?"
Karena recognized Red Arrow and Blue Sky,

She spoke up first, "Red Arrow, It is I,
Karena Eagle Medicine Woman"
Red Arrow stared at Karena, and let out a loud
yell and grabbed her off her horse and swung her around.

"Karena, Powhatan has been so upset
since your departure.  He has your children
safely within his dwelling.  He will be so
happy to see your face once more.  He has
prayed to the Great Spirit for your safe return."

"Red Arrow, let me down, please bring me
to my children. I want to see my children."
Karena hopped onto Red Arrow's stallion
and they galloped away like lightening.

Tumas said goodbye to the Mattoponi warriors
and followed Blue Sky back to the village.
There was a party that night, all were
celebrating the return of their medicine woman
and her husband.

Chief Powhatan had plans for Tumas,
he was to lead a party of warriors
toward Jamestown Settlement to capture
the white man's new chief, George Percy.

Tumas grinned with excitement,
this was to be an easy task,
He already knew the man,
and would be able to just walk into the town.

Powhatan was not seeking revenge,
nor was he trying to destroy the white man,
but he knew that it was time to convince them
to go back to their motherland once and for all.

Peace and Hope was needed among Powhatan's nation of 30 tribes.  The only way to gain control of their land once again, was to force the white man back to where they came from.

Starving them was not working,
killing them was not the answer either,
living amongst them in harmony
was not at all the answer.

Karena, prayed to her Eagle Spirit guide,
"Tell me, Eagle Spirit Guide,
What is the answer?"

There was no response.........
