Tumas Captures George Percy (Karena Series)

by Amber "V" Moonstone

3/09/09

Tumas was accompanied by ten warriors,
he felt proud to be trusted by Chief Powhatan with this mission.
He knew that this was  a very important time

The settlement was quiet and dark
The white man was asleep
and the guards on duty were drinking ale
and telling stories of their killing sprees.

Tumas quietly stole into the town,
like a  snake slithering toward it's victim
He would startle them with an Indian chant
telling them he was alone.

Upon hearing the chant,

The warriors came over the wall
and took them by surprise.
They never knew what hit them.

They dragged the white men into the barn,
tied them up and gagged them.
Tumas would not let them cut their throats.
His time with them, softened him a bit.

They were only after George Percy,
to offer him back as a token of peace
He promised Karena no violence, so,
He would do whatever it took to honor her

Her respect and love was all he needed
for his heart to soar like the Eagle
and find peace within his soul.
Why must there be so much hatred here?

George willingly went with them.
He understood more than the others.
Tumas knew that he would co-operate.
It was the townspeople that would not.

If they honor their Chief George Percy,
then Powhatan people will reign once again.
They will not release him until peace is restored and the white man returns to their motherland far across the big ocean.

Chief Powhatan stared at George
with fire burning within his eyes
"You are the Chief? You look like a child,
scrawny and pale as the sand on the shore.
What do you have to say to save your life?"

George was trembling from the cold,
but mostly in fear of his life,
"Chief Powhatan, I never wanted to see
all of your people destroyed. It was not in my
power to stop any of it. I was ordered to
attack and kill as many of your people that
was necessary to claim stake to this new land.  I am seeing with new eyes,
but it is too late, your people will never be the same again, I am truly sorry."

He bowed his head and knelt down on two knees and cried like a baby.

The Chief walked away from such a coward,
he could not stand to breath the same air
of such a weak white man.
His mind was forever changed.
"Tumas, bring him to the woods and kill him"

Tumas looked at the Chief, and said,
"Yes Chief, I shall obey your word,
it shall be done upon the creeping hour
of the sun rise.  We will leave his body
in the town square for all to see."

The warriors dragged George
toward the woods.  Tumas prayed for strength and the power to kill someone
that he knows should not die.

He was torn apart, with anquish,
"Do I disobey my Chief, and not kill this white man that has power among our enemy to destroy my people, to keep my word to Karena, or do I do what must be done?"

Great Spirit this is a dilemma, I need your guidance, I feel that my people's survival depends on this decision.  I must seek consel with Karena, she will know the right thing to do.  I want my woman.

Just as Tumas finished his prayer, Karena
came into the village looking for him.
"Karena, come here, quickly, we must talk,
Our Chief has ordered me to kill George Percy, I feel it is a mistake, please help me
to think clearly."

"Tumas, you must do as your Chief has ordered you, he has consulted with the Elders and the Great Spirit, never doubt your Chief, you must obey."

"Karena, I do not want to go against our Chief, but I feel in my gut that this could be the beginning of the end for our lives."

"Yes, it will be, but you must obey, you cannot make this decision, our destiny is already made, we will live with the results.
Now go, do what you are ordered to do."

Karena and Tumas embrace as if it was to be their last good bye.
Karena mounted her horse and rode back
to the Mattaponi reservation to be with her children.

Tumas followed the men into the woods,
He was torn apart, still not knowing what
he was going to do.  I believe in the Great Spirit's power, I know what I must do.

Excellent, as always, Amber. I think I recall that Percy was not
killed, but yes or not, I'm enjoying the way you're bringing our early history to life. -gene

Tumas should ask for the Great Spirit guide, because the orders received was also a test, not of loyalty to Chief Powhatan and the Elders, but to Manitou that prohibit the killing if not defending himself or in battle.
That's what Tumas should do.
