Peaks of Golden Hope (Karena Series)

As the sun rose with it's brilliance of light,
Karena felt sadness within her heart.
She was about to uproot her family once again,
heading toward the unknown as commanded.

Tumas was the first to come into the sunrise,
He was the most beautiful warrior she had ever seen,
His long dark hair shining under the sunlight,
gave her heart a tug of pride and love.

He smiled when he saw her,
and reached for her tenderness.
She walked into the warmth of his embrace
along with all the dreams he carried to her.

"Tumas, my love, we must pack up,
I have seen a vision, and my father urges us
to go to the mountains to find safety and freedom.
I must obey this dream, I love you my brave warrior."

Tumas knew to heed Karena's dreams,
without a question he began gathering all their
belongings and packed their horses.
Karena woke the children to feed them.

They were such beautiful sights to see,
a good blend of both herself and their father.
Beauty beyond the scope of imagination,
her family, all together, was peace and love to her.

They mounted their horses and rode toward the East.
All day the children were happy and peaceful.
Somehow they knew their new home was going to
be safe and happy with their parents.

Karena brushed the road dust from her brow,
dismounted her horse and gathered her thoughts.
It was getting dark and they had to find safe
shelter from the early winter's chill.

An abandoned village was just within sight,
Tumas rode off faster to see if it was a safe
resting place for his family.
Karena stopped and waited for a sign from Tumas.

They played a game while waiting for Tumas,
at least an hour went by and Karena was getting worried,
"Children, we must get back on our horses, and
be on our way." A slight feeling of doom entered her body.

Red Hawk hugged his mother and said, "Is father coming
back for us? I feel a bit of danger, can we go hide there".
Karena hugged her son harder, and said, "My son, we will be fine, your father will return for us."

Karena tried to be strong, but she knew that something
was not right.  She could not leave her children to go
find Tumas, so all she could do was wait for a sign.
It was almost dark, and she could see the Eagles flying.

"Great Spirit, in all of your wisdom and guidance,
tell me what I should do? Should I continue toward the
mountains, and leave Tumas behind, or should I wait for him to return to us?"

Silence was heard, and Karena did not hear an answer.
She was very worried now;  she feels it in her gut to go
and find Tumas.  I will hide my children, and be back
as quickly as a swift elk.

She rode quietly toward the abandoned village.
She could hear laughter and saw smoke in the village.
"What?, What? she saw Tumas, and three white men,
smoking a pipe and drinking.

She became angry at first, but then, thought with wisdom,
Oh dear, he was caught, and pretends to be a friend.
I must somehow rescue him before he becomes too drunk.
She waited until the men passed out.

She watched as Tumas stole from the men.
He was just about to slit one of the men's throats,
and she yelled for him.  He stopped dead in his actions.
"Tumas, No!  We must go, your children are waiting."

"Karena, leave, I must do this, or we will never be safe."
Karena walked back toward where her children were hidden.

She had sadness in her heart, and grief for those men,
but Tumas was right, they will never be safe,
all the white men must be destroyed or shipped back to
their mother lands far away from her and her family!
