A slight variation of the original from MOUNTAIN TRAILS, Lessons in Life, Book 2.
Hope you enjoy and may God bless.
He climbed to the top of the mountain
Stared in awe at the beautiful views
Then settled down to set up his home
He knew just what he had come to do
He was sent up here on a mission
By the Creator high in the sky
To constantly watch over mankind
He never even thought to ask why
He didn't know where this trail would lead
Or just how long he'd be asked to stay
But his God gave him the strength it took
To weather the storms that came his way
He blended into the mountain side
He'd be obscure but not hard to see
For countless years this stone sentry stood
Watching all those who longed to live free
From the days of the earliest man
Through the time of the Indian hunter
All tried to figure out what he was
Just his sight set many to wonder
Did this old rock man on the mountain
Have the soul of their Creator within
Was there life in that profile up high
If so, was he keeping track of their sins
One day new settlers came to this land
Soon they set out to make it their own
And when they discovered the Old Man
They knew they would never stand alone
History has written the stories
Far too many for me to tell of
Through wars, battles and too many deaths
Man's will to live free always starts with love
Love is what that Old Man is about
Just ask all those who visit his place
Stories abound of solace and peace
Love radiated from Old Stone Face
