Sorrow consumes the moment

Daytime’s fading light falls like a curtain

As a broken heart withdraws into loneliness

Tear stained the letter sits

Silent tears turn to sobs

Dripping from eyes cupped by trembling hands

Her words a relentless reprise

Of loving goodbyes

“A love unreturned cannot survive

Nor obligation hostage the heart

To continue on would be a lie

Your final act of love I pray

To let me go let me depart

Goodbye”

Darkness fills the empty room

A spirit numb to love’s embrace

Life no longer worth the chase

The hammer falls

The silence broken

Blood joining tears

No words are spoken
