Faded Dreams

She was told dreams are reachable,
give them birth before they die,
labor pains felt through her veins,
ache of her heart, reached beyond

She shed the past, with her dress,
head first, plunged into cool water,
toward an island, butterfly strokes,
where his shadow knelt in the sand

Waves rolled over her bare shoulders,
water lapping against her breasts,
warmth of a breeze kissed her cheek,
her very last one, she began to sink

Her dream faded into the deep,
along with the shadow, she loved,
untouchable dream, meant to be,
her heart knew better, no regrets

THE BEAUTY OF SADNESS. THAT'S WHAT THIS WORK IS ALL ABOUT...AN ACCEPTABLE DEATH IN LIEU OF UNREACHED DREAMS. 'GOLD RIMMED' SADNESS. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...

Oh, how sad! It is beautiful, though, and engages the reader (me) in the drama.

I love how you ended this, Christine: no regrets. The dreams may fade and strengthen by turn, but to strive to touch them, realise them, live them is surely not to be avoided. This character has powered on through and her heart beats stronger on account of that! A most beautiful parable and analogy. xx

For some, this kind of dream is difficult to attain without leaving something behind. Love must be very strong to survive and reach out to us in that way and to remain so without regret. Only a beautiful imagination can produce that quality of love.

the tone may be romantic but the reality
beneath your fine words, Christine, bites
with truth. This is splendid work

This is stunning!!!
So authentic, and the ending, that internal acceptance, is marvelous. This whole poem is very visceral for me.

Oh my gosh...this is simply beautiful!

Those are your words to my poem today, Christine. I used them here because this poem is simply beautiful. Whereas my effort was on a positive note, this one was very sad. I disagree with Felix -- no offense meant -- but sometimes you can have such a dream which is very unreachable, as you have here with the shadow. Very unreachable. Love this.

Dreams are never unreachable to the dreamer. Where there is love there is always a hand to reach for so that you will never sink though from time to time it may feel like you are drowning. You write of dreams and love with a passionate embrace that touches heart and soul. I have no doubt that your vacation not only rejuvenated your body but your creativity and your mind as well. This one at first made me a little sad but I think the shadow...the untoucable dream may fade from time to time but will never completely dissappear as long as you hold it in your heart.

all of us one day must face
The hardest part is getting to the "no regrets" stage.
