Was it the suspected cancer
clinging to dusty dendrites in my brain?

Or the yet-to-be diagnosed
biochemical warfare in same brain?

Perhaps it was merely a lapse
in judgment, a perceptual mistake…

Or was it like the old story
of one who looked too long in mirrored lake?

Some say irretrievable mark
on an unsavable soul meant to die.

But perhaps ‘twas only a heart
finding way of love, saying last goodbye.

Whichever original sin
led to lashes, rejection, my demise,

as stars of misfortune fell down
I caught glimpse of a tear in Savior’s eyes.
