Nobody asked me to my high school prom, but how I wish you’d been there, how I wish it had been you to dance awkwardly with me. In dreams I see you walking toward me down long corridor. You are so happy you are with me, and I with you.
Nobody brings me flowers or takes me to the opera or celebrates me simply because I am, and I suppose I understand… life is busy, after all. But in my dreams you smile at me again and even call me friend. We walk hand in hand under pulsing stars and share the most beautiful evening together, together.
Nobody has made love to me for twelve years now; the reasons too complicated to explain here. I know it can’t be you, but how I wish you wished it, too. In dreams you reach to hold me; there is such a tide of gentle passion and a wind swell of honest love passing back and forth between us, energizing us.
Nobody has sat beside me through years of agonizing loss or attempted to explain what happened or why. Nobody has forgiven me for mistakes unknown to me and in the past. In dreams you harbor no ill will. You speak with joy and heartfelt gratitude. You forgive what was then, begin this day anew with an open heart, listening ear, laughter I once knew.
Can you imagine if it really were this way the agony of it!
Your poems are so compelling Dawn! They cause the emotions
to cry out to match your own. Superb work!

This was an absolutely incredible emotive write, Poet!!!… Thank you for sharing it.
Powerful verse, Dawn. Resonates to one's core. ..."laughter I once knew" rings true to those suffering sustained loss, while planting that precious seed of hope. Superbly written stanzas to be read and reread with pleasure.

Okay, now you've got me snuffling! Where are my Kleenex? Puffs Plus, I mean?! (Sometimes you simply have to pamper yourself, even if it's only tissues!) *sniff* Tearing? Me? Allergies! *sniff* *snuffle* *waahhhh* Darn ya! ;-}
I don't even need to write it, do I? I could have written this. Prom. My first love, Dwayne. My fault that the dream didn't come true; I broke us up. I majored in "Idiot" in High School! Then, moving forward -- *seven* years, for me. Twelve? Well, I imagine I'll hit that one as well. "For reasons too complicated to explain here." Honest to God. Spooky! ("Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you" -- I like the Atlanta Rhythm Section's version.)
Okay, now I really must meet Richard and Dan in my dreams! But now my pillow is soggy! (see what you did?!) *grin*
