Soft moonlight
satiates blackest summer sky
Reminiscent of who you were to me.
Faint, tonight, penitent call from some distant tree.

Walking first,
I break into a sprint, decidedly intent
to catch trailing coattails of yesterday,
To hear what the snowy white owl has to say.

Forest dark,
My fears fall silent now. Wise owl,
Lonely, like you is hidden away. Again
I feel as if a mouse, your unsuspecting prey.

Would that my
Daring to approach you as an equal
Had not brought forth in you such pride. But so
it did, and my response? To scurry off and hide.

Stronger now,
I stand up tall, woman unafraid
To call out in eternal language of
Forgiving, healing, sealing, sacrificial love.

I shall not
Chase you, bend or break you. No –
This time I sing a sweeter song, certain
As the owl’s cry that we two together belong.
