Cold Champagne Dreams

Much as an artist
treasures his oils,
she holds tight to her
cold champagne dreams.

Secret dreams that warm
on the coldest of nights
never shared in the light of day,
but in sleep, cherished, guarded
and looked forward to
from a time
nothing else has replaced.

She savors those moments
locked tightly away,
where only the night
holds the key
to unlock the memories
hidden within, marking time
in the day’s warm beer life.

Her cold champagne dreams
full of roses and love
missing moments spent
safe in his arms
where kisses they shared
even now linger on
after the years have gone by.

Tearful eyes shut as tight
as a clam in the sea
she pleads,
no more memories tonight

for nothing is worse
than death claiming a love,
more than passion lies dying inside,
only allowing the want
and the impossible need
to bubble up in
her cold champagne dreams.

The title alone denotes sadness, 'cold' being the key word which effervesces this piece, especially when combined with 'Champagne Dreams'.

Cold, like bubbly ice frictioning through a hapless paricipant, commiting self to memories, slivering bubbles into shards.

The last verse lampooned my soul...

"for nothing is worse
than death claiming a love,
only allowing the want
and the impossible need
to bubble up in
the cold champagne dreams."

I've always hated 'cold'.

A bitter-sweet write, like Richard says, and certainly describes my aunt. She lost her husband at 36. She remained true to him...she died at 85, still very much in love with him. Now they are together, at last! That is some love worth having. Sadly, today, the word Love, does not have the same staying power. An excellent poem, CJ. Thank you!

God Bless

"Cold Champagne Dreams" makes you want to sleep, and sleep and sleep. This is truly inspiring and symbolic prose. Thanks for sharing. My best, Gloria

Wow two fantastic writes in one day offered up to us as delectable verse. This one speaks of the haunting desire to have or see again a love that seems to have perished with time except for in those moments when hearts reflect. sweet

Occasionally a poet writes a poem that transcends all others before it. A soulful look into the private places we hold so dear. Amazing write my dear friend.

I love champagne, not sparkling wine which is cheap. Real champagne costs money and so does her dreams. But let her dream on, for man thrives on dreams. Victor

We often have to hide and conceal our true feelings in life, from fear of being hurt or dissapointed.

Only the individual is aware of his or her deepest emotions and sentiments, and I believe that is how it is meant to be..

A tearjerker for sure CJ...

I like the analogy you gently brush in the first strope - and also the juxtapose between "cold champagne dreams" and the "days warm beer life."

This construct, to me, paints perfectly the tension between what an artist/writer envisions, and what they face in real life.

A bittersweet write CJ well penned ...
