I used to turn the oatmeal box into a drum,too! And tie bright ribbon through it, so my grandson could sling it over his shoulder and play it! His hat was an upside-down cool whip container, with feathers taped onto it! His brother played "the comb" with wax paper, and
wore a cowboy hat - he was the parade marshall! And they marched through the house making a joyful noise! Oh the fun and laughter...

Reminds me very much of the make do skiffle bands we made up when we were kids. They were just as you describe in this jaunty piece but less the, er 'burping' sound with the armpit. Funny thing about that point, when I was 10 years old and very much into lavatorial humour as boys inparticular were wont to be, I thought I could impress a girl I fancied with my armpit prowess. Needless to say, she missed the golden opportunity.
Dear CJ, this is a total delight! It would be an honour (and FUN, FUN, FUN!!!) to join this highly talented band. Maybe I could do a good job playing a jam jar xylophone! :0)

Earlier, Bill wrote a ditty about the importance of a poem's title. Well, how can you not read about 'the oatmeal armpit band', how? Well, other than the fact that the poet's name is CJ Heck, the master of children's poems.
