NEW SONG> just composed this lyric: part philosophy of my particular situation, part "tongue-in-cheek" about my boring everyday life and part "New York Jazz tune" That's the style and the it doesn't sound complicated but if I were to go to the piano and start arranging the chords I'd lose the melody so while I'm finishing up touches on my 2nd CD: IN MEMORY ONLY I will record this melody accapelo (without instruments) YOU will never hear that version it's only for composition. Someday I will arrange it probably dropping half the verses.

Meanwhile I hope it isn't too personal - there's some of this in everybody's life not just "solitary singer/composers" like me...

PS: the clue to the reference to the "guitarist" is contained in the photo collage.

IMAGINARY LIFE

“tomorrow's another empty cup to fill

with the sweet wine of solitude…”

 (1.)

i once knew a fellow and the world was his to command

he had a guitar, a world tour - i had a one-night stand

and all the books say: what you think will become real

while all your careers keep you so busy,

i read all those books and here's the deal:

i have a piano, a life such that i can play anytime

i did so much - so little happened

it was quiet, free of strife

            He had an "imaginary day"...

            I have an imaginary life.
(2.)

online, i check the account register,

i see my balance is almost flat

good news: on a diet like this, i'll never get fat!

i burned a cd, trying to sell a few -

i check cdbaby once & awhile to see if any sales went through

same old song - month after month - nothing new.

back at the account page, i transfer $10

            to keep from going under,

it's the middle of winter, yet did i hear thunder?

shut the windows, bring in the cat,

"before u go to bed, turn down that thermostat!"

just burn 1 night-lite - it's only 4 watts.

what you think is "real" - what you feel is not

tomorrow's another empty cup to fill

with the sweet wine of solitude.

the piano of one "solitary singer" is a matter of latitude

stay in control (i say to myself) - no fear, no strife.

it's just an imaginary day in my imaginary life.

chorus #1
DON'T SWEAT THE DETAILS
SIT DOWN QUIETLY,
THIS TECHNIQUE NEVER FAILS
WHAT YOU THINK IS WHAT YOU FEEL
WHAT IS, IS TEMPORARY, NOT REAL
HERE'S THE DEAL: NO FEAR, NO STRIFE
BECAISE IT'S ONLY AN IMAGINARY LIFE...

(3.)

imaginary day, imaginary career, imaginary fans, even imaginary pay

i just wrote an imaginary poem in my mind with this imaginary pen

i could even have an imaginary wife (though the cat is real)

she's perfect, not a single sin, a perfect 10.

today's another day in my imaginary life...

tomorrow's an empty cup to fill with the sweet wine of solitude

it's all really only a matter of latitude & attitude.

sit down quietly, this technique never fails

don't worry, what you think is what you feel

it's only temporary, therefore not real

just imagine no pain - no fear - no strife…

Quote:(from my song: LIFE LIKE A DREAM (1986)

"Life like a dream; nothing really lingers
slipping through the hands of time
like water through your fingers"

Chorus #2

DON'T WORRY, WHAT YOU THINK IS WHAT YOU FEEL

IT'S ALL ONLY TEMPORARY AND NOT REAL

IMAGINE NO PAIN, NO FEAR, AND NO STRIFE
remember: what his guitar, gently weeping notes could say:
He had an "imaginary day" -- I have an
IMAGINARY LIFE -
