Living with an alcoholic parent leaves lifelong scars on the adult child of an alcoholic...

Poem Artwork

 To d a y,
 I  thought
about you,
sad  visions
c a m e   to
mind.  I had
thoughts of
days  l o n g
past.... days
of  a  special
k i n d.  See
lately, Daddy.
I  have  been
d w e l l i n g
on  my past,
thinking   a
 l o t  about
 ..our  lives .. and the
love  you said  would last.
but those disturbing thumps,
it  seems,  are pervasive in my
 thoughts ......  and ..... dreams.
because each time your drunken
body fell........ from the top....of
the  s t a i r s.... a small  part  of
my   heart   fell,  too  .........  as if
you  ever  cared! you can't  begin
to   imagine  what life was  like  for
 me,   l o v i n g   you   with  all  my
heart and trying to  make you  see.
 that  you  didn't  have  to  d r i n k!
you  didn't  need  to  fall! you were
talented  and smart, so  gallant, so
tall.  You had  s o  much to live for..
at   least.  I  thought  you  did. yet,
everytime  I turned around. damn!!
Bam!!!  down  the stairs you slid!!!
then   bang!!   at   th e  bottom  of
the stairs  your  frail  body  crashed.
t a k in g    with  you my  hopes.  my
pleas all of my dreams quickly dashed
dashed.  my   dream  of  having  you
 w a l k   me  proudly  down the   aisle,
your charming face all aglow with pride
and  that  happy smile .. Sadly, Daddy,
that    did   not  come to be! instead, I
walk   to your  gravesite whenever I
need to see how  proud  you are of me

Some memories are so sad...I can relate to some of the views and emotions you express...sadly so can many who will read upon your thoughts...

Oh Miriam! I cannot imagine the life you lived. I am so impressed with you after reading your bio and then this poem. It is beautiful but also so very sad. I'm so glad you did not give up on God forever. Free will has gotten so many of us in deep trouble and we blame God for our bad choices. I will be reading more of your work!
