When I was in school
My brown skinned sistahs
Always acted the fool
Telling me that I could
Not hang with them...
'cause my skin didn't
Have enough melanin!
Sistah, oh sistah
are we still in school?
Why'd you have to be so rude?
Can't we all just get along or
Are we destined to sing the same
old song?
"You're too light"
"You act too white!"
"You sound like 'them'"
"We're not your friend!"
Gee, kaygee times have changed
Didn't you get the memo to your brain?
Or don't you know, haters love to hate
Pull one in and she can't wait...
To diss and to insult...
It's what they've perfected...
While positive things
often go neglected!
You know, like positve energy...
Encouragement, without ego
More tactful words will help
your sistahs to grow!
Love one another
with support and kindness...
It's not too much to ask

Oh my dear,this brings back so many memories from the day. My skin has darkened from living in the South. But being born and raised up north and living in Alaska for a while, your poem certainly explains my constant trials and tribulations. Having 3 dark skin sons puzzled people even the more. Great Write!
