Tuesday of Holy Week: The Scourging at the Pillar (Meditation)

By Kathy Armijo

You were beaten.

Yet, You succumbed,

Taking one flogging after another.

Your pain,

Your suffering,

Indescribable!

Personal attacks on me

Feel like a flogging all their own.

Sometimes I fight back

With hate-filled words.

Sometimes I want to get even.

How dare these people treat me so badly?

What have I done to them?

Maybe something,

Maybe nothing.

Then I feel badly,

Cause looking back on your tragedy

I’m reminded that You truly

Did NOTHING!

NOTHING, except to give Your love.

NOTHING, except to offer us eternal salvation.

NOTHING, except to offer us a better life.

Now, I feel really petty.

You endured Your suffering,

For the greater honor and glory

Of God, The Father.

As I contemplate my suffering,

I consider, perhaps, the other person is having a bad day.

Lost their job.

Wrecked their car.

Had a death in the family.

Who am I to say?

Strengthen my resolve to turn the other cheek,

And endure their mean spiritedness

Thereby, giving witness to Your goodness.

In Your name I ask for increased

Compassion and understanding.

Authors Note:  Just some thoughts in preparation for Easter.

You describe what the divinity of Christ is. Powerfully inspiring poem. You turn on the light switch to make us aware of the greatness of God and our Lord, Jesus Christ. Thank you for the affirmation of what we all reallly know but do not always adequately convey. Jon Michael Willey

put your super poetess suite on Kathy because you went there, this is a great piece full of meaning especially to me. My wife and I are hated by most in her family because we don't have all their stupid vices, which turn people to ices. I don't drink or do drugs, if I owe you money I'll chase you to hell to pay you back. My wife and I smile and laugh a lot, have a good time because we're not hating, even on the fools who hate us. Jesus did give us a good lesson, too bad most are too stupid to wise up on it. Love & hugs OnepoetGem

Powerfully penned reminder that He bore our sins - willingly - so we didn't have to suffer the same punishment we justly deserve - by His Grace and Mercy, He did it for us - well done, Kathy.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Great statement WE ALL need to consider in our lives - being Catholic I am not ashamed to add: He did Nothing except to love and heal those around Him, yet, look what he received in turn. There is a part in our human nature that is always persecuting ourselves and others when life tests us to act or think out of sync with "the world" and its opinions - and who better showed us the WAY: to forgive and act anew in that knowledge is Divine (of His nature)
Thanks for bringing the true spirit of Easter to AD
best this season and all year, michael guy

And when somebody says about tears of blood, we can start to understand.
A pious poem of cruelty metamorphosing into a tender prayer.

May He increase as we decrease, and you have stated it so well. Many have suffered under the yoke of hatred but when we offer it up to Jesus we are set free. Wonderful writing to contemplate during Holy Week. God Bless you and your family.
