I Forget … I Remember
© By Kathy Armijo
The older I get
The more I forget
I forget my misery
I forget about being pushy
I forget to look over my shoulder
I forget to take the road that is safer
I forget that the clock is running out
I forget that my life has had many strikeouts
I forget why I got angry with you
I forget why I was blue
I forget that I was once a smaller size
I try to forget that I now have thunder thighs
I forget about that THE job got away
I forget which day is payday
Thankfully, I remember the joy you bring
You make my heart sing
I remember our first kiss
Never had I felt such bliss
I remember my first prom
I could have danced until dawn
I remember that family comes first
For me, this is a constant thirst
I remember to keep my word
It becomes stronger as I’ve matured
I remember outings on the river
I remember planning for our future
I forget my troubles and woes
I remember that I have enjoyed all of life’s sideshows

shows that "forgetting" is part of maturity
and this choice is what brings freedom.
Thank you for reminding what I am gradually
achieving, day after day.
