Sitting on my back porch
listening to nature's call,
spring transformed to summer
in a quickly tossed softball.
Hear it in the bird chirps.
Listen for it in still air.
Feel it in the warm breeze.
in gentle rain, if you care.
Will children's laughter tell
or a crackling campfire dare?
The sweat bead on your brow?
Or your heat-flushed cheeks so fair?
Listen for the summer.
Warm your senses if you dare.
