Poem Artwork

She lies there lamented and missed in her fancy tomb.
Perfect from the instant she left her mother’s womb.
She floated through life with an easy glide....
with a uncomplicated view of the world outside.

You never heard a single negative thing.
No gossip or ill words could her memory bring.
No, ‘perfection itself, she was’, they all said.
Not a bad thought in her pretty little head.

There she lies in all of her glory.
A sad and poignant end to a glorious story.
‘What a pity’, they mournfully intoned to each other.
‘That she would die so young, before her own mother.’

Yes, it was sad that she had died so young and so pretty.
Not a word against this sentiment could be found in this city.
Perfect, however, I must fully protest.
She had her faults, just like all the rest.

She could have temper tantrums and be pigheaded at times too.
Her tendency to run other people’s lives was another that stuck like glue.
Yes, she lies there lamented and missed in her fancy tomb.
Perfect (indeed!) from the instant she left her mother’s womb.

It isn’t my duty to correct the images that people want to keep.
Nor is it my inclination to bring out things buried so deep.
No, she can lie there in all of her perfect glory....
with no one to change the fabric of her public story.

This is awesome, Silver! No one is perfect and what a terrible weight to place on any human, one of being expected to be perfect. When someone is placed on a pedesteal, the only place they can go from there is down; to fall from grace for not meeting others expectations. It all seems so very unfair. It is still sad when someone leaves us, particularly one who is young and well liked. Your point is a good one. You will always remember her as human.
Take care,
Sherry

I always want to look at the good side of the person first. When the good side outweighs the bad, then the good side wins, the bad side is of non-importance.

A good thought-provoking piece.

Excellent write Silver! Isn't it amazing how people can be so unknown!
It's a mystery. We think we know someone only to find out they were totally different than what we knew. Your poem shows that very well!
