Oh, I have to travel today. . .

Poem Artwork

I always wanted what I had has a child

Grandmother and Grandfather around the corner

Drop in and laugh, pick some plums, share a cup of tea.

Cousins to climb the trees and make up games with.

Times moved us all far way.

I board a plane to visit the little ones.

They haven't seen me in so long, and they've grown so.

Do they know how much I love them?

And when I'm gone, my own house

Is emptier, the dogs missing our routine,

The hubby becomes a weekend bachelor,

I don't sleep well without those strong arms to hold me.

Wishing for the old days,

Wishing for the old ways,

No use to wish our lives away,

So acceptance and joy in the moment.

No use to wish our lives away,

I think this is the best attitude. "We come this way only once, why not pass it in beauty?" (I forget who said that)

An excellent write Eileen
I remember when we were young
family all around, play and sang together
now we are scattered throughout this wonderful land of ours
but our seed's seeds are enjoying their lives with their cousins
near by and I lonely for my close once upon a time siblings..................... Peace be with you

This is a gem, Eileen. I can't imagine, because I never knew either grandma, and I have not yet been one, but your poem takes me to that place of understanding.
Best Wishes,
Christine

You got that right Girl. Quite often, it seems, our minds tend to remember "The Old Days" as something better than they actually were. But, somehow that doesn't seem to be the case when it comes to Grandma and Grandpa. Well said. Thanks Dick

Eileen, I too remember walking down the street to grandma and grandpa's house. We picked ate their grapes and picked their apples. They were always there. And now my wonderful grandkids are all the way across the country. I miss them everyday! Thanks for a good write!

Peace,
Dayvid
