You live in, not just make believe.
Live your life in gratitude, not in attitude,
Don't believe that shoes and clothes make the girl,
And the smallest boo-boos hurt so much
and must be bandaged with hearts on the band-aids,
And the band-aids must be pink.
"Don't touch the baby," daughter-in-law yelled
When I met the little one, after restlessly abiding
The six-week moratorium on visits imposed.
"Wash your hands before you touch her,"
As if I were a known carrier of some violent and dangerous disease.
My god, how did any of us survive childhood,
Careless as our parents were about where
We went for how long on our bikes, and going
Without dinner if we didn't like what was on the plate?
I know. I know. A peaceful heart creates a peaceful mind.
My grandkids are great, just different.
And distant. And nothing I say or spend or do
Will change the opinion of someone brought up
Without grace, gratitude, or God in her life.
Her children are her sacred idols.
And I am not of that faith.
This, young lady, was a fun read, I hope that little one grows well as while her mother is cautious now, she will change when she gets more kids on her hands...the first is always treated with specialness...-e- (don't let grandpop get near her or suffer the poor little child, hope she grows up looking like you rather than her pop-pop...)
Well said. Another thing that gets me, is when every kid gets a reward, no matter how good or poorly they did. Not everyone can be a winner all the time. One has to have something to strive for.
I'm with you. It drives me crazy when I see parents these days coddling their children and suffocating them with no freedom and materialistic consumerism. And I'm talking about the way my ex-wife treated her daughter! Damned little princess at 16! I pity her husbands… She'll have several.

Loved your insightful word, Eileen, and they need to become the "bible" of the learning, growing and living experience. Television. Something that could have been an absolute genius-like technology. It could have, but it turned into a means to brainwash the nation into ind-numbed robots. And now we have our computers. Every sentence in this is special. Thank you.
