Poem Artwork

            Mirror, Mirror. . .Mirror

Having seen that every wall is a mirror,
think they’d be able to find themselves
under the designer suits and frocks.
Striped or swirled ties and scarves
of fine silk, Hair and The Watch coordinate.
Mirrors barely keep up as they whir
by on their way to make money to buy.
One stands before them long enough
to disrobe, latest wisps of cotton/lycra
declare them suitable.  If by mischance,
a gurney becomes involved,  the safety pin
that sent Mother into spasms is nowhere
to be seen.   Not a rip, tear, or spindle hole
to suggest one understands the term poor.
Means what one thinks it means.
Can’t have to do with an owner of mirrors
for every wall.   Even time on occasion
to pause to check for a zit or sagging
hem.   Cosmetic surgery is past due again.
People think they got it easy.  They don’t know.
Mirrors make one demand after another.

I say.... throw every one of them over the cliff! Imagine, imagine... what a changed world this would be.

Great message, this is an excellent poem and the Picasso fits nicely with the meaning. I will have to read more of your work, your style is unique.

I'm always surprised at who I see in the mirror when I happen to look into one. Thought-provoking reality in your verses, Phyllis. Thank you for sharing. Love and peace. Regis

A sad piece, Pea, with echoes of past reverberating silently within those mirrors. All those needful, dependable mirrors, reflecting what? A mother's driving need? Or, proud thoughts? A child's conditioning? Or, a self-achieved plot?

It was a twisty piece, I, too, had to read it more than once to find the silver-backed cracks, facing its back with designs protected in its depths.

A marvelous, mind-wrapping poem of wryly wise undulations and speed bumps.

(Inner)Beauty and character is skin deep. The clothes we wear do not define us. True, the mirror tends to make one demand after another. Beautiful interesting write, Phyllis!

God bless,

Sandie.

The image we cast and how comfortable we are with it is in direct relationship to how we view our self and the life we have led. Superficial dressings do not give us character; that comes from a place unseen by the mirror. I got this one, Pea, and it is excellent!
Take care,
Sherry

Earth-centric Humanity at the Crossroads by Martin Treon

For the reasons I describe in this book, the world-wide suffering, death and extinction of humanity is very likely to occur, unless nonviolent and democratically determined radical and revolutionary personal and societal actions and changes are taken
