Poem Artwork

artwork by Amor Sabor ; watercolor 1988 "Girl in Formal" no unauthorized duplication allowed

"Polypropylene Sky"

She was surrounded by a polypropylene sky
clouds of marshmallows in amniotic solutions
She once introduced me to neoprene sunsets
when I was convinced the world was not looking
but I scoffed as she attempted to measure heaven
while she stood tiptoe on a particle board dream
reaching towards the ceiling with an inverted broom
I dismissed it because I hoped she would love me
proving it somehow in the form of sound pressure
and I thought I had come down from the mountain
but she proved me wrong and I remained silent
regrettably licking sea salt from the bathroom mirrors
after the thick sensuous fog had slipped slowly away
and it was then when I started to believe in her laws
when feelings I had for her suddenly pointed north
and I would be a compass in her Bermuda triangle
because my fantasies would be merely theories
as she knew the answers to all of my questions
when she analyzed me with Bunsen burner eyes
exposing me as residue at the bottom of a beaker
She had a stainless steel heart that beat within
impervious to the intensity of any of my emotions
Cold physics would dictate how I should love her
a biological fact in a half-sanitized Styrofoam world
but she failed to differentiate human touch from plastic
and all of the warmth in my soul would never thaw it

Powerful words, you've written. What is it with some of us? Always falling for those who are the least likely to love us back. Your discription of her carried so much insight into her personality -- it needed no further evaluation -- and you did it just right. Good write!

This poem is stunning, Amor, and your heartbreak is so sharply and clearly expressed that it is possible to feel the pain and disappointment. Deeply touching, and the artwork is also quite awesome.
Blessings, Dreams, infinite Inspiration,
~Alexandra~

Amor, She sure sounds like a heartbreaker to me! The watercolor fantastic, your poem like a story, your words chosen carefully, defining the meaning of that which is untouchable &
unreachable...free will. No matter how hard you try you can't make someone love you! The woman in the poem sounds like she is everything you are not...you are better off without her!

Amor,

What a wonderful description of an unhealthy relationship. "I dismissed it because I hoped [s]he would love me". Geez, I see this every day with the women I work with (victims of abuse). "and all of the warmth in my soul would never thaw it". Bullseye! Outstanding work, my friend.

Hugs,
Tami
