The Other Side Of Spousal Abuse

It's not always the woman being abused...sometimes its the man....

Poem Artwork

So tired from work, I open the door
Just like a million times before
All I want is to rest and sit down
But she starts in with another round
No hug , no kiss, no welcome mat
Fussing and fighting is where it's at.

I've given her all my love and care
When she needed me I was there
When did she turn so cold and mean
The likes of her I have never seen
She has hit me time and again
I try to keep my anger held in

I have told no one, who would understand
I'm supposed to be strong, I'm a man
The pain is raw inside of me
There's scars on my heart no one can see
Do I leave her ,  just walk away
Or hope things will get better someday

I am so tired,  wish she'd leave me alone
Can't fight anymore,  my strength is gone
It drains the life right out of me
I have no courage to set myself free
To be beaten down every day
It takes part of your soul away

I try to relax, but the screaming goes on
If only I just hadn't come home
The verbal abuse, Oh it hurts me so much
What I would give for one loving touch.
All I get is the back of her hand
God, I feel like half a man

I don't know how long I can go on
Holding to a love I know is gone
I just know I can't take this anymore
Her yelling echos as I walk out the door
To be beaten down every day
It takes part of your soul away.......

Authors Note: We hear so much on spousal
abuse ..the man being the abuser. Here is a
different light on things. This does go on in
our society!

Thanks, Linda! Pity the nice guy who doesn't return the abuse. Thank God, I have a good wife of 44 years! As a Christian, I know my goal must be Ephes. 5:25 - to love her even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for her.

Great thought-provoking poem Linda. Yes, everything goes on and we can't hide from that. I pray your words reach the people they need to where they can give strength.

I have actually witnessed this happening on more than one occasion in relationships. The man is usually so ashamed that he tries to cover up as best he can. Sad but true. Thank you for sharing, Linda. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis

Wow, Linda. This hit too close to home for me. It sounded like you heard about my first marriage. The first year was great and then it was down hill from there on. She didn't work, I tried to give her everything I possibly could and it was never enough even tho I worked 60 to 70 hours a week it was bitch, bitch, bitch from the time I got home until she fell asleep. I put up with it for 18+ years before I got the courage to say enough is enough and simply left. My 2 kids couldn't understand why I left until they became the target of her perpetual anger and hate. Today, she's a lonely woman who's children want nothing to do with. Sad that there are people like that in the world today. Thanks for sharing this tale, many need to read it and understand how some people live. May God bless you and yours always, my friend.

Like Clint Eastwood would say, “Nag, nag, nag.” I don't think a lot of women know how abusive they are when they get after their husbands who can't ever live up to the dreamlike ideology of young brides who find out their Prince Charming has faults and may be just an ordinary man who wants a little peace and quiet when he comes home from a hard days work where he probably gets no respect either.

If these women (and these men) could see videos of them and the way that they behave, they might be shocked into change. I think it's time that every abused spouse starts a sting operation to reveal who the real abuser is.

God bless you, Linda, for your courageous and artistic display of compassion!
And you are so correct.. it happens to both genders..and to all ages.
I am sorry for your personal experiences, and I will pray for your deliverance from the depression and loneliness.

This is so sad...it brought tears. Very well penned, Linda. It's heartbreaking to realize far too many live this way. It's not "living" at all...why do people behave so badly! Beautiful story...

Wow! Great write Linda. I can't imagine this. I had some friends who verbally abused their mates. I heard verbal abuse used by both spouses. Neither is healthy!

Peace, love and blessings,

Interesting, against-the-grain approach. Abuse cutsd across all kinds of lines: age, gender, socioeconomic....
