Today I saw two small children at play
One black, one white
I thought a part of his dream is now alive
Then much to my surprise the black child
Began to run with intense fear in her eyes
I questioned why? As she and a dog ran by
My mind immediately went to a different place
A different time, when her ancestors ran too with
That same fear in their eyes
As dogs were loose to return them to their
Masters side
I realized then that the fear was pasted to
Her from generations back
From a point in time when it wasn’t
Always easy or good being black
Again much to my surprise, the little girl
Stopped running, and looked the dog in its eyes
It was at this point she reached her destiny in time
For at that moment she faced her worst fears
As many of us have
She realized that she had Education to
Stop the hurt of the past
Knowledge to allow her to
Compete with the very best
And as a Black woman, she realized that
Not only hers,
But Martin’s Dreams can come true
I hope this will give someone the same drive I have to complete all that I set out to do even when others say It can't be done by me
