THE CRAYOLA BOX - Colors of Who I am
by:  Linda Law

So many delicious colors from which to select,
apple green, juicy orange dripping down my cheeks, chocolate moon pie reminding me that it would be
tasteless without a swig of RC Cola.

Flapjack brown, coconut cream, yummy! Jesus visits
White as Snow, Rich Red Watermelon in my tummy!
Colors switch from deliciously sensuous, bittersweet,
or just plain blah!  I was a fantasy of dreamy shades, periwinkle, cornflower, Alice in Wonderland in a pearl pink
chiffon prom dress with my dance card busy..
Me..Smiling, Happy, Laughing blue.
Color hues often appear as symbols of life events.  Mauvelous, a shade of lavender, peaceful and serene.  Occasionally, drifting harmoniously into orchid, plum, or cerulean, I day dream in these soft, comforting colors.
I almost chose Wisteria, romantic, soft, regal,
like Amethyst my birth sign;
a dreamer in my robe of many colors,
I could be a rainbow!
Enduring the pitch black in our hearts and lives,
I sum the losses of a newborn baby, petal pink;
my beautiful mother, Crimson at the evil hands of an intruder; daddy taken by the lhideous ravages of black cancer.  I hate this evil black monster.
The dark sad brown and black draping fabric on my body, could not mask the widow's pain I wore.
Deeper I traveled into a grey-charcoal dungeon of despair...Deep hideous deathly Black could be me.
The brilliant, beautiful morning sun radiates as it enters my window each morning, humbles me that I still breathe.  The perfect, sunny side up egg, the sip of fresh golden orange juice, delicious and sweet.
My grandchildren, sunn
y laughter tinkling through the telephone line, while my youngest son, their daddy,
calls out, "I love you mother!"
My loving daughter, eyes sparkling green...with a heart
so full, she's many colors within..What a pleasure
The son in the middle, sad and smart, fills my own
beating heart with a smile that radiates love in a
magical blend of grey, white, blue, and rosy pink hope!
The newfound love; eyes glowing like two golden lights, reminding me we were both lost in darkness,
now we find radiance and gorgeous sunsets, and new beginnings...
Yes, you can call me Sunshine!  Alive and glowing and eager to make my ray of Yellow, Orange,
and Happy Living Colors burst with hope and life!
There will be times when I color with Navy, or maybe
even purple or black; but if I trust my Savior, the
White of the Dove will always cover....

The Crayola Box fills my days, from light to grey,
It's up to me, and only me...to choose the path
My life will be!

I was reading some of my older pieces that were posted on AD, and this one reminded me of how much I love crayons.. The colors always make me smile, and each one reminds me of something. Often the color is special in that it reflects a memory of happiness or joy, food, lack, plenty, friends, clothing, pretty, sad, and almost any word in Websters... The crayons fit our lives in many beautiful ways! When I read some of your works, I see you in "color" in my own mind...One day I'll write a poem or story and connect some of you to the colors that I've attached to you in my brain...hehehehe... hugs, lindalaw

Beautiful poem Linda. I never looked at a box of crayons that way, but how true it seems to me. May God bless you every day of your life.

Linda, lovely poem. I always think in colors. I feel many colors depending of course on my mood. Mostly I feel the suns colors, yellows ambers, reds, and purple for my passionate side. Many times the earthy colors make up my day and they make me feel closer to Mother Earth!
Thanks for such a wonderful experience.
Peace, love, and light,

This is so beautiful, inspiring, sad and uplifting. All the colors of your life--sour and sweet. I am green. Such an openness in your sharing that shows a basic trust in life and the universe. Sorrow has given you a spiritual depth that I would color 'turquoise'. Glad I read your blog which led me here...

Linda,
Aren't you full of colors like red white and blue,
You are so very very cool with your colors of hues.

Just loved you imagination of words in a poem so true,
But we all know that words coming from the heart of you.

Are like wisdom coming to ministry unto us your heart, told So we could understand the feeling of your wonderful soul.

Thank you Linda for this wonderful poem of colors.

This should be a challenge...What color am I?? Gorgeously colored! I would have termed you orange...just for your love of oranges and your vivaciousness.
I will have to think of a reply now...thanks a lot! :~)
I have to add that I loved the addition of the dove at the end...you know why.
Hugs,
Cryssa

I love to color, Linda, and I think you've used every crayon in the dang box to come up with such a wonderful painting of whom you are! Well done! I'm feeling a bit orange-ish (sunset, of COURSE! LOL *favorite color*), myself. :)

Love it, I did a poem that also featured Crayola which is so much a part of all our childhoods that it naturally is a wonderfully subject to write about...your best color in my perspective...is rainbow.

Crayola Box shows a truth we should all be aware of. We are in charge of what colors we allow to rule our days. Do we see the glass half full or half empty. Yes, there will be dark days but eventually the sun always comes out.
