Poem Artwork

Crimson Rose

Today I plucked a bright crimson rose
Still wet with dripping dew
Shimmering petals in the sun light
Reminding me of you

Elegant, soft, moist, crimson petals
Picked only at their best
Succulent fragrance filling the air
Held close against my breast.

The luxurious crimson rose I hold
Petals formed so flawless
Blanket my heart in soft red velvet
Memories of your caress

Succulent satin crimson petals
Fall gently to the floor
Floating down from the dying flower
Like a love that is no more.

Nice job, but you made a mistake here:

Elegant, soft, moist, crimson petals
Picked only at it's best

"it's" would be its anyway, but petals is plural, so it has to be their.

All in all, very nice.

I loved how you repeated the color crimson and the word rose over and over again -- like a repeating theme. This repeating theme kept appealing to the reader, keeping them engaged in your poem. Truly lovely poignant poem about the simple pleasures of life.

After reading your review of the poems posted on my website, I just had to go check yours out. I love this one. I also read Grandpa's tales. I will be reading the others in time. I find the rose is a wonderful subject for metaphor and simile, having used it in severalpoems. Your handling of it in this poem is relevant and superb.

You have separated a rose from its roots and it died...it served its purpose well. Love need not die if it has its roots firmly planted in the ground and is given freely. Beautiful images, Sherry.

That is so sentimental and touching. I really enjoyed it. Short and sweet. But very sad
