For someone who has such a positive outlook on life, I have to wonder where this poem came from.~sgh

Poem Artwork

Shards of Yesterday

Cupping her hand
She brushed the shattered bits
Of yesterday’s dreams
Into her apron

Who was that woman
She had just seen
In the steamy mirror
Surely it could not be she

It is a long time back
To the carnival days
Of cotton candy and snow cones
Neon signs and flashing lights

Hearts were won with kewpie dolls
And Teddy Bears
Kisses stolen
High atop the Ferris wheel

When did the music cease
And the bright lights fade?
The Barker has long gone silent
Leaving her feeling heart-worn, wrinkled and old

I really try not to think of the wrinkles, the sagging .... and the slower walk .... but age they tell me is a state of mind. Everybody says our best days are ahead of us, and yet, I wish I still had the days with my Grandma Dolly, because in my life those WERE my best days. A very thought provoking poem sis, thank you so much for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie.

I know what you mean Sherry
with this fantastic write
I often ask the same questions
early in my morning, when I pass by
the God Fearing mirror......
How and when Did I ever get so old
Love & peace be with you

this enlists cries of "me, too!", Sherry! Sometimes, for those of us who are upbeat and seldom ever stop to consider our mortality, that unexpected glimpse in the bathroom mirror can come as a complete bolt out of the blue, even though we "see" ourselves there every day. I love how you set this up, with that image of the workaday, then taking us into "the dreams", the flights of fancy, freedom and fun. This is strongly imaged and the character lives and breathes... I can feel her sigh from here! Lovely work, thank you. xx

It may be a painful write but it is definately one we all feel from time to time as we age. You captured real and true emotions and that is not something to be ashamed of, even for a bright upbeat person such as you Sherry. Well done

Interesting and exemplery of most folks who look back on their lives at where they've come from. Life is a process of continual change and sometimes we are amazed by our own gradual makeover. Good write.
