The Other Side Of You

I used to trust you

Trust you as I did myself

But that was before I met

The other side of you

Now I live in doubt

Wondering if you are telling me lies

Wondering if the truth has ever had a place in your life

Wondering why you thought it so acceptable to deceive me

You say you love me always, this I cannot comprehend

For I could never lie to you, my love

Nor deceive you, or turn my back on you

But I am the one who is now broken

You were the one who didn’t care the price

Leaving me with self-doubt

Questioning my own ability to judge, and to be loved

You were a thief and my innocence your prize

And you did this, why?

Your answers are weak and without remorse

No excuse heals the torn pieces of my heart

No words can put glue on my shattered dreams

Why would you wish to bring me such sadness?

Why would you offer me a future you had no intention of delivering?

Why would you teach me to breathe only to take the air from me?

Why would you accept my soul only to steal away my very essence?

I have been a fool

And you, a mean and evil cad

You set out on a path of destruction

I greeted you with a noble heart

I only wish I had known

Before I fell in love with you

All your darkest secrets, that your words were untrue

And the other side of you

Trust, once lost, can never be retrieved. This poem breaks my heart for the victim and the perpetrator. If only people would THINK before they cause such pain.

Beautifully expressed and painful to read.

Sadly there are people out there (I have known quite a few myself) that don't think of the future...they take love and take the souls and the hearts of people without thinking of anyone but themselves and the here and now of it. Unforgivable in any case, but especially with that vulnerable young woman. I am truly sorry.
