Hurricane Sandy
He’s passing by this morning
There’s an uptick in the breeze
Palm leaves as large as giant fans
He scatters them with ease.
Far out in the Atlantic
Several hundred miles away
He lets you know with every glance
That he controls the day.
He’s about the size of Texas
Now broken up in patches
He stalks and churns and lunges
And tosses all he catches.
His shape belies his future
In another day or two
He’ll hit the shores with vengeance
Intent to pummel you.
Somewhere near the Jersey shore
He could find his point of entry
And if you stay to greet him
You’d better be the sentry.
Fifty million souls lie in his path
Their fate is now unknown
Prepare, stock up, get out of town
Don’t take him on alone.
You’ll find no rest when he is gone
As flooding waters rise
He leaves a nasty calling card
He never leaves a prize;
But should he not veer to the left
And we all escape his claws
May his name soon be remembered
As the beast without a cause.
