Life comes in dribs and drabs
But experience plays hide and seek upon your mind
Until that moment when you cannot change it—
And then it hits you hard between your eyes
And knocks you senseless;
You awaken in a parallel universe
One that you did not ask for and did not want.
Dazed you collect your sensibilities
And arise to find it is too late to adjust
And so you seethe and move down avenues of
Confusion and anger and self doubt.
It’s too late to swing and curse the darkness
What’s done is done
And you are once again the vanquished
From circumstances written by your fate.
Disarmed disjointed and bewildered
You tread a lonely path lined with thistles and briars
Until you feel the pieces of your life
Slowly meld into a lumpy whole.
You swallow hard and move on knowing
That this too should pass
But you are changed forever
With fewer teeth and another battle scar
Situated right where you least wanted it.
Thanks to your note, I know it goes much deeper for you personally than in this philosophical poem. Circumstance and serendipity is not fair to all has so many found out this past week here in Houston.
I hope this poem and your resolve get you back on the sunny side of the street very soon.
I once knew a woman who truly lived this life. You depict that life so well with your words as though you once lived the life. I felt emotion while reading this.
Something must be terribly wrong with me, but my whole life I have never felt like I was a victim. If I had troubles I could look inward for the reason.
In life we get dented and bruised, but like brave soldiers that we are, we rise limping and aching, but we rise. I enjoyed your poem today, dear Edward xo
I guess we have to take the good with the bad, and "move on" as you suggest here. You lay out the territory so well here in this poem. I can feel it as I see between the line. Well done. John
A very philosophical rendering and so typical of you .. the person behind the comedy mask!Well said , Ed who else but you can give us such insights into the relaities of life.. Roseline

Our culture has taught us to believe in many ideas which aren't actually real. Exposing these illusions allows us to recover the power to live our lives according to our deepest desires.
I hope this poem and your resolve get you back on the sunny side of the street very soon.

Love ya!
