The Triad of Life

It is difficult to live without them
No matter how hard we try
For they surround us
They define us
They give us hope
And joy
And purpose.

Whether we are young or old
Rich or poor
In good health or bad
This trio persists—
They tug at our values
They awaken our souls
They give life to
Our needs.

They are the wind at our backs
The music of our thoughts
They are the stuff of life
These three comforters
For without them we die—
Poets write about them
Musicians play for them
Lovers revel in their moods.

What are these drivers of what is
The elements of what could be
The creators of all that life portends?
Only this and nothing more--
Something to do
Something to live for
Someone to love.

Brilliant! Love the way you worked towards those well-known lines, adding another dimension to them.

They do surround us like the wind at our backs that makes the walk so much easier. I love those last three lines. All art is driven by one or all of them. Excellent!

Love ya!

Got that right, Ed. Your 3 elements are also the secret to longevity when biological reality wants to act it age and suggest mind can't rule over matter. I challenge that.
