A harmless Tuesday in this small town,
you had to be away from here
panoramic visions of a business venture
somewhere lost in the early rush of the Ohio city.

Sipping coffee on the couch,
my baby girl sleeps
in the playpen next to me.

Dried white on the outside of a paint can,
in the corner of the dining room;
a backdrop of green and teal,
left me unfinished,
alone for another day.

Imagination on three floors
innocence lost in daydreams
floats like a butterfly.
Fluttering, moving up and down
touching each life all at once.

off to the skies ..

clutching a plastic airplane
my three year old flying ace
snatches handfuls of cereal
and runs up the stairs.

She is taking advantage of mom’s absence.
Adorned in a long flowing silk dress
high heels, red lipstick
and a black flowered hat,
she sings to the little girl in the mirror
in the room upstairs.

Followed by a trip to the park
peanut butter and jelly will see me
to dinner time.

Mary Wells will tune the night
softly in the front room,
when all the kids are finally
in bed asleep.

Imagination flutters in….

I am looking for a dance
in the emptiness next to me.
Mary is singing for us.

raises hairs on the back of my neck.
