It’s been three years
since she left this world.
So long since I felt someone
a living breathing life
that walked next to mine.
Everywhere I turn they torture me
flaunting those mysteries
about the opposite sex;
A constant reminder
that I am alone.
I tried a simple conversation
the weather, a shopping trip,
her hairdresser’s birthday,
a trip to the ocean.
My heart is racing
Her mouth is moving
but I can’t hear the words;
I feel as though I’m melting.
A simple conversation . . .
The aromatic perfume
hypnotized my senses.
Red lipstick and long hair
quickened a carnal urge.
I felt it breaking
through this cocoon.
The light around her
accentuated even the sidewalk.
A simple conversation . . .
She touched my hair
spoke softly in my ear.
My hands are trembling
Thank God!
She walked away.
My mind unravels all her words
I am left helpless
desperately trying to cultivate
her whispers;
from a simple conversation.
better to have known (even momentarily) than to have not known at all...
