Sometimes, when I get down and bitterness begins settling in, I have to shake myself out of it by looking around and noticing the things I do have - the things that are here for me, like: The wonderful person who sponsored me here on the den and the kind people who take the time to read my poetry and make positive comments ~ The kind heart who recently sent me a consoling empathic message ~ The sweet old man who just purchased an ad in my new publication, because he could relate to what I shared in the last one ~ The person who is letting me stay on her couch a little bit longer, even though I am seriously in the way ~ The beautiful snow scaped mountains that are surrounded by fresh air and sounds of peace ~ The food I occasionally get from angels at a nearby church ~ The fact that my car is still running, although its stuttering... ~ And so on. . .
I appreciate these things. I really do, although I need so much more. Perhaps this is the lesson for me today - to appreciate the small things, instead of praying for a safe warm room of my own and healthy food, while resenting not being able to earn enough money to provide myself with them. I'd be a lot worse off without the things that are here for me right now. So, I thank God they are. And I thank you for even caring to read this.
