Snow Day in Minnesota 12/9/2009 11:18:05 AM
A day at home! You might think that snow days happen frequently in the state of Minnesota, but not so! My 6th grader informs me that this is the first one in 4 years! The phone rang at 6:00 a.m. - a recorded message from the superintendent informing us that school was closed. So much for sleeping in, we were all up and watching the TV news to see if it was really true. It was. My husband had to haul himself out into the wind chills and go to work, but Allison and I are spending the day at home.
I am anxiously awaiting news from Dog Ear Publishing that my new book is (finally) available so I can order my copies and start shipping. Nothing so far.
I am not much for taking a day to do 'nothing'. The idea of a whole day at home (away from my part-time research job) got my Type A mind a' spinning. All the gifts I have bought so far are now wrapped and under the tree. The last load of laundry is in the dryer, both guinea pigs cages are clean and so is the room they live in. Two guinea pigs needed toenail trims and that is done.
Allison (finally) made up a wish list for Christmas gifts so I can distribute it to the relatives, and I have bribed her into spending a half hour practicing piano so she can be ready for her 4:30 lesson. She is mainly playing Christmas songs so it's nice to have in the background.
All that is left is to sit down and start writing. Funny how that is the last thing. I have this awesome idea for a new book (a non-guinea-pig book) and can't seem to get started. I made a goal to have the 'start', whatever that turns out to be, maybe a few pages, be a gift to my family. At least that gives me a goal to meet. Can't afford to start getting writer's block now, right?
Things are going well with "A Tale of Two Guinea Pigs". What a wonderful thing, a dream come true. A year ago I really only did dream that it would be as well-received as it is. Thank you to all who have found it, bought it, read it, reviewed it and passed it along.
