Interesting Happening from the Olympics
7/30/2012 7:08:49 AM

Did anyone watch the men’s swimming relay at the Olympics last night? It was amazing. Our USA team of Michael Phelps, Cullen Jones, Ryan Lochte and Nathan Adrian gave it every bit of effort they had. They were not favored to win. The Australians were considered the heavy favorites, but as it happened, they didn’t medal. Our USA athletes were fantastic and Ryan Lochte was nipped at the end by the French team. It was breathtakingly close. I’m so proud of our swimmers. They were disappointed not to have won the gold, but they were gracious enough to compliment the French for their win and they realized what an extraordinary effort they gave. They also felt that the silver medal was a pretty good result, and they would be back to challenge other teams in the future. You might remember that 4 years ago, the final result was exactly the reverse. The USA team barely out swam the stunned French team.
Have you ever wondered why so many athletes are photographed biting their medals? I understand it is almost a tradition. Some athletes do it, pretending to test the medal to make sure it’s gold(even though they know it is)
Did you hear about the amazing swim by American Dana Vollmer? She won the gold medal last night with a super fast swim. Did you hear that she lost her outer swim cap during the race? She knew it had fallen off, but tried not to let that distract her. Dana is an amazing swimmer. She was devastated not to have qualified for the last Olympics so she rededicated herself to this year’s competition.
I applaud all of our athletes for their courage, dedication, and hard work. Go USA!
