Today the 2012 Summer Olympics opens in London, England. Are you excited? I can’t wait. I love most of the exciting contests, with equestrian and swimming ranking among my personal favorites. Being a former equestrian, I’ll be cheering for our team; Beezie Madden, Charlie Jayne, McClain Ward, Rich Fellers, and Reed Kessler. I do hope that there is more equestrian coverage than in past years.
But for those of you who aren’t equine fans, you might like the fierce rivalry between Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps, swimming stars. They’re friends, but in the pool they’re relentless competitors. Which one will have the edge this time? It’s been very close between the two of them all year. And you might also enjoy watching teen sensation, Missy Franklin, already in her second Olympics. She’s about 6’l’ and all grace and power when she’s in the pool. She loves competing and just tries to do her best for her country and have fun in the process.
USA also has a talented group of gymnasts including, Olympic veteran Jonathan Horton, Danel Leyva, John Orosco, Sam Mikulak, and Jake Dalton. Our women’s team includes: Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, Kyla Ross, McKayla Maroney.
No matter what sport you enjoy, I hope you’ll watch our amazing Olympians. They’ve dedicated years of training for this moment and we marvel at their talent and dedication.
