On Saturday, July 2nd, ABC aire a taped version of Bono's Live 8 for ending poverty,especially in Afirca where a child dies every three seconds. A cameo cast from Brad Pitt, to Salma Hayek, to George Clooney, they snapped it out, the audience snapped it out, one, two three, and another dead child.
A most haunting picture of a near dead child filled the screen as her story unfolded. The child in the picture was 10 minutes from death, and looked it with blank staring eyes and useless blackening teeth, mouth agape in loss of purpose. But she was saved twenty years ago, and appeared on stage. The beautiful young woman in white, just turning 20, and receiving her creditation in agriculture to help those in need like herself. We can make a difference.
"We don't want your money, we want you," lined the top of the stage to make a point. This concert was designed to create wolrld awareness that 8 nation, Italy, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Russian and the USA, will be meeting with representatives from the UK and Canada and France. Money and humanity commitments will be made by the countries in the next week. The United States is at the tail end of the donations.
Yes, we're fighting a war on terror, and insurgents, but isn't a war on world poverty and death from hunger and treatable diseases more appropriate, and more possible to win?
Sir Paul McCartney and Bono opened the show with "Sergeant Pepper's Loney Heart's Club Band." The special horn section consisted of four beatle look alikes in regalia from the album, with a different set of faces in the background like the original album. It sounded great, and did a part to remind us of the live AID show from 20 years ago.
With Madonna, Mariah Carey, Roger Daltry and Pete Townshend of the Who, and a Pink Floyd reunion, the stage rocked in the UK. From Philadelphia, Will Smith spspoke and sand and danced, as did Destiny's Child aso dress in white bootylisious outfits.
If the leaders of the nations will listen to their rocking citizens, we can make a distance. I'll be watching the golf course in Scotland this week for GOOD news.
