The benefits of keeping a journal as you write Why Good Writers Keep Journals
Most of us at one point in our lives have probably keep a diary, or some form of book, or tablet where you recorded all our private thoughts and dreams. Now that you’re a writer, you should resume that routine by keeping a journal. A Journal can be especially useful in your writing career. A Journal helps you formulate your thoughts. It can also satisfy the need to express yourself . And it helps you to be discipline to a daily writing routine, which is essential to a writer. It can also provide material that you may use later in your writing.. Journals often record your inner thoughts, expressions, and emotions that reveal who you are.
Many authors( especially non-fiction authors ) have based their books on their daily experiences. Look for example at Thoreau, his journal which was published after his death was based on his boyhood at Walden Pond, and Brook Farm . Another example is Eleanor Roosevelt. Her autobiography was also based on her childhood memories that she kept in her diaries. Many fiction authors too have kept journals, and when you read them they can give the reader a deeper look into their inner self. One such author is Arnold Bennett, a English novelist, and playwright. His accounts of his journey in writing “The Old wives Tale” can be read in his diaries titled “The Diaries of Arnold Bennett”. It gives you a look into the writers soul (So to speak ).
In a journal you have none of the demands of a publisher, and you can freely express yourself. If you are a writer, a journal is a must. It is a way to express yourself without criticism. You are totally free to be you, to express your thoughts, and maybe one day even express them to the world in your books !
