Tips On Choosing The Right Title For Your Book !
11/2/2012 8:29:04 AM

Helpful tips for writers on choosing a title.

The Importance of Choosing The Right Title For Your Book

Writer David Petersen describes the ideal title as one that “catches the reader attention, clearly signals what to expect from the article, or book that follows, and induces the reader to keep reading” Did you know that the title you pick for your book will be the first thing you editor sees when submitted.. Often if the editor is not impressed with your title, he may ask you to change it. A good example of this is Fitzgerald’s book “The Great Gatsby”. Its original title was Among the Ash-heaps and Millionaires . Not to memorable right. As authors we must , both beginners and profession be skilled in selling ourselves, and picking a good title is definitely a part of the selling game. When choosing a good title there are things you must consider. Here are some  helpful suggestions to choosing a good title.

1. Choose a title that Excite the reader. Dull uninteresting titles may make the reader feel indifferent towards your story.

2.Don’t choose Big Word Titles. These are titles that contain words that the reader would need a dictionary to look up to understand . Although most readers have a good vocabulary, they do not want words that would leave them scratching their heads. Your title can catch the reader, or turn the reader off in a matter of seconds.

3. Never use Misleading Titles. These are titles that really have nothing to do with the story. they just sound good, but after the story is read by the reader leaves them confused as to why you e ever chose such a title in the first place.

To sum it all up, a title should be offbeat enough to be intriguing, but totally clear as to why it was chosen to the author by the time the reader has finished the book. Whether you chose

your title before you even start writing (as some authors do) or decide on it as you are writing the story, remember that it will be the first thing a potential buyer will see. Make it memorable !
