I'm not a drinker, but I do get high from results. [Spoiler Alert!] Hello all you wonderful readers. I hope your day is going well.
I'm excited to announce that, despite being somewhat sidetracked by the trading card game, I'm almost done with Act I of book two of The Creation of Xyphus.
A few nights ago, I was thinking about this series, and I decided to reread the last few chapters of the first book. I have been thinking about book two off and on for a while, but, what I call 'headfilm', began to play in my mind's eye.
I realized that the way that I finished book one, which was a relatively cliche blackout, I had an opportunity to have Brandon enter Dreamland again.
This sparked the movie in my head, and after watching it, I began writing. I wrote most of it that night, and have been slowly finishing it since. I often struggle with chapter endings, and the headfilm was only the first half.
It's funny, though, as I'm writing this, I'm realizing how the end should be.
I'm on the fence, however, when it comes to how I plan to publish it. I'm considering putting it on Kindle Vella with the plan to publish it as a book later. I plan for it to be longer than the first book, which is around 50,000 words.
In my opinion, 50k is a bit light for a novel, and so I'm going for 70-80 thousand for the remaining books.
I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, but I'm writing in the 'pantsing' style for this series, so I honestly don't know just how long this series will be. It's been fun so far, but kind of frightening for someone like me who's always wanting to be on a need-to-know basis.
I will be uploading an excerpt from this first act a bit later.
On a side note, I was interrupted while writing this blog, and then this video caught my eye.
Now, the new solar panel technology seems very exciting, but what really caught my attention was the mirror design for directing sunlight underground.
Back when I still played D&D, I had come up with an idea for an adventure to a parallel world full of firestorms on the surface, and the inhabitants live underground using high-tech mirrors that can absorb and reflect sunlight. I had gotten this idea after watching Fifth Element, and seeing the giant gold disc illuminating the room with reflected sunlight. "Aziz, light!"
Yet again, I've thought of an idea of something that is now scientifically possible, and will most likely be the reason why we'll be able to colonize places like the Moon, where the surface dust is toxic and abrasive.
I don't like to brag, but I was honestly surprised by this one. That video also gave me some ideas for later in this series as well. I'm thinking of a barren rogue planet, where they will find another of the Final Eight.
