And thank you for being the exception to the aforementioned rule. For once, I had high expectations for a story. Well, maybe 'high' is too strong of a descriptor.
Okay, so, S.O.I.L. is a story idea that has been ruminating in my head ever since I learned of microplastics a few years ago, or at least, how much of a problem they have become.
Being a science fiction/fact geek, I have always pondered what evidence would still be around far in the future after an extinction event.
The truth is, once you start getting into aeons beyond, the half-life of most things in our life would have it be non-existent by that time, with very few exceptions, namely, radioactive isotopes and microplastics. That is, terrestrially speaking.
The idea of the twist at the end was what inspired me to actually write it. I don't know if it's groundbreaking or anything, and I plan to change the third planet clue, either by counting inward like the Sumerians, or just not exacting which one it is. I've been told that it gives it away too soon.
Now, when it comes to the expectations, I knew it would get some reads on here, but I expected a little more from Medium. I have it monetized on there, and I promoted it in a few Facebook groups that are about science fiction. I even posted a free link to Wattpad, because if you're not a member on Medium, you can't read monetized stories. You don't even have to have an account on Wattpad to read stuff on there.
There were eight views on Medium with zero reads. Did anyone go to Wattpad instead? "That's a negative, Ghostrider. The pattern is full."
I know it's early on, but from what I've gathered about both sites is that, if they don't read it in the first day or two, then it becomes forgotten. Same thing with the groups on Facebook. Those posts will quickly become buried.
I just don't know what to think about that. With thirty-two reads on here so far, it just doesn't add up, or down for that matter.
Kind of a long-winded way of saying thank you, I suppose. If it weren't for the readers here, I wouldn't know anything about my stories.
