We all have to go through the growing pains of rewriting our work,but do we have to write it the editors way? Do we not have a say in our creation?
Well I just came back from my editor. She is editing my novel "The Chameleons". Oh she is good at what she does and I see where my weak spots are in writing. This woman sure is a tough girl and sticks to her guns. I did get a bit frustrated when she wanted to change my first chapter around so it will read entirely different. I will rewrite it as she suggested and maybe it will grow on me.
This was one of the reasons I really did not want to go to an editor, for the simple reason they want you to rewrite the book as how they see it. There is a big lesson to be learned though. You must both comprimise about how and what you excatly want the story to say or have the reader get from your work. If you let the editor bully you around then you might as well put their name on the book along side yours. Because when you are finished editing and rewriting the work will not be totally yours.
I am proud to say I won round one. Now I have to get back to my rewriting.
