Birthdays 7/16/2006 7:15:08 PM
Being caught up in an emotional event can bring you closer to your friends.
I just attended a beautiful surprise birthday party for a freind of mine that turned 60 years of age. We have been friends for over thirty years and have been through thick and thin. Life wasn't always good to us but we had each other to shed our tears upon.
For a gift I wrote her a small booklet , "Tid Bits of Best Friends: A Memoir". It took a few days to write and organize into a book form. Making the booklet was easy, it was the tears I had to see through that made the project longer than I had anticipated. One doesn't realize or anticipate the emotions that our dredged up from the past. I was surprised that I actually remembered dates and times. They say our mind is like a computer and never looses information, it is just stored until needed. Boy, I couldn't have been more surprised when the memories came rushing back. It was as if they just happened yesterday.
Needless to say she remembered the events as I wrote them. She cried and I cried with her. Others were wondering why I was crying and remained quite during the party. I informed all that I had not seen my best friend for two years on the exact date that we were reunited at the party. Also that I had missed her. We had talked over the telphone frequently but illnes and work always got in the way. I needed to inform the others that I had just worked 13 hours as a registered nurse, slept a few hours and drove 132 miles to come to my best freinds birthday party.
I was highly praised for the beautiful card that not only did one get to know my best friend better, but had them travel through a span of thirty years of life, war, death and devotion to each other. What brought tears to their eyes most was at the end of the booklet, I wrote... "You have always been there for me, and that I thank the dear Lord. Your friendship will always be wrapped around my heart. "
